Another warm day, the cold weather of Scotland long forgotten. The temperature during the afternoon was set to hit 28 c, so we needed shade. A forty five minutes drive away in the beautiful village of Abbotsbury were some sub-tropical gardens, the perfect place to visit on this very warm day. We have been visiting Weymouth and the surrounding area for many years and have never noticed a sign for the gardens. Perhaps now we're in our later years they have become appealing.
Coffee and cake started the day. Always a good idea, and then a gentle stroll through the grounds, shade a plenty. The gardens were beautiful, and the view from the cliff top absolutely stunning. We'd certainly picked the right day to come here.
Up on the hill stood the 14th century barrel vaulted, Saint Catherine's chapel, built by monks. The views of Chesil beach and Portland from it must be amazing.
We stayed at the gardens for hours revelling in their beauty. Why had we never visited before?
